Commentary: Daisy Gold did not come from a known breeding program, hence many of its characteristics are not well known. Yet it is becoming a favorite among specialty tablestock growers, especially in the organic and natural realms where Daisy Gold was an outstanding performer in the organic field trials of the Northeast Organic/Sustainable Potato (NOSP) project 2008-2010.
Production Characteristics
- Maturity: Mid/late season. Keep watch of it, tuber bulking happens very fast
- Yield (marketable): Medium, avg. 243 cwt/a
- Tuber Set: TBD. Beware its fast bulking, they will get huge if you let them
- Specific Gravity: 1.071 to 1.073
- Diseases: Susceptible to common scab. May be resistant to Golden nematode. Moderately resistant to leaf hoppers
- Storage: Stores exceptionally well. It is an excellent keeper
- Markets: Tablestock, specialty niche markets. Extremely versatile
- Advantages: Produces large tubers with striking yellow flesh. High ratings in organic field trials

- Shape: Oval to oblong to long, flattish, with an occasional misshapen

Culinary Characteristics
- Taste/flavor: Excellent
- Texture after cooking: Flaky, moist texture
- Preferred uses: A great all-purpose potato, extremely versatile. Great boiled, mashed, baked, fried and roasted. Makes awesome hash browns
- Presentation: Striking yellow flesh can be used to create attractive entrées
- Other: Very high in phytonutrients, especially carotenoids and other antioxidants
